Is It Possible to Completely Cure a Drug & Alcohol Addiction?
Absolutely, addiction is not a life-long illness, and someone does not have to live with an addiction or substance abuse problem, all of his or her life. However, there are two schools of thought with addiction; some believe addiction is a disease that cannot be cured, and an addict is always an addict. The other train of thought is that addiction is curable, and with the right help, an addict can be cured and never return to the addiction. It is most certainly possible to cure addiction with the right help, but this will not happen overnight, and it does take a significant amount of work. Depending on the severity of the addiction an addict will either choose an inpatient or an outpatient drug treatment program.
There are numerous options for long-term and short-term rehabilitation, and this choice should be made based on the severity of the problem. After treatment, it is always recommended that the patient attends some type of aftercare treatment, which will help with maintaining sobriety and moving forward with a successful life. Addiction should not necessarily be considered an incurable disease, as there are too many variables that can be fixed and more often than not, it is the person's environment and choices they make that cause an addiction to take hold.
