How Do You Perform a Substance Abuse Intervention?

Last updated: Tuesday, 29, September 2020

When you discover that a family member is abusing drugs or alcohol or the substance abuser themselves has admitted it or it's because he or she was arrested by police or was rushed to the emergency room due to drug overdose. In any case, you need to act; family intervention is the act of ALL family members gathering together and insisting that the person abusing drugs or alcohol agree to reach out and get professional help for their addiction. Do not include any member of the family who is reasonable and may feel sorry for the addict or who is the enabler (someone who helps the addict with money or other support of their addiction). There are no set rules to this action, plain old fashion love, and care that the person gets help and quits drug abuse.
