Home detox is only as effective as your planning. The risk of relapse is high while going through a home detox. With that in mind, planning must be done to ensure things go smoothly. Typically, family and friends would be involved to help you. Detox is not easy, and depending on the types of drugs you are detoxing from, you may give up after the first day. Not many opioid addicts choose to detox at home unless they are forced too. However, a cocaine addict would detox at home before they went to treatment. The effectiveness of home detox depends upon what steps you take to push through the withdrawal discomfort. Withdrawing from pain medication is far more serious than cocaine withdrawal. Yet, if a cocaine user does not take proper precautions, they could easily relapse during a home detox.

It is always best to consider attending a formal residential detox. Yet, if this is not an option, and the treatment admission is happening right away. Then a home detox is a route you must take. It is important to take all possible precautions and read the extensive information about how to detox at home. Seek advice from an addiction expert, and consult your doctor for prescription detox pills. Have the support of family and friends, or anyone else who can help out. And do not attempt to do it on your own. At least have one person available who is there to ensure you can push through what is to come.
